My name is Mac Ullem! I am an artsy spirit based in Southern California, exploring stories as a filmmaker, musician, and actor.

Film

Director, Writer, Editor, Film Composer

I've been discovering stories every way possible since I was little. From writing fantasy short stories far past my bedtime in elementary school, to practically residing in my local movie theatre in middle school, to now, directing and writing sincere, relatable narratives that audiences feel, I've grown my craft through curiosity and exploration.

I've studied in middle school and high school, at summer camps, such as the Northwestern Cherub's NHSI and Berklee Summer Programs, and in my garage with any idea I could make.

Now, a rising Freshman at Chapman University for Film and Television Production with a Directing emphasis, and a 2026 YoungArts Winner in Film, I strive to do the same as I did when I was little at a greater scale: craft bold, adventurous stories.

Music

Voice, Piano, Guitar, Songwriter, Film Composer

As a kid, music was important in my family. My siblings and I had to familiarize ourselves with about 50 classic, era-defining rock songs before we were allowed to listen to other genres. Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, and many others became my favorites, but I didn't just stop at classic rock.

I became curious, and now, I've learned seven instruments and am proficient in many genres, including rock, jazz, pop, and more. I've studied these practices at Los Rios Rock School, in middle school and high school through choir and jazz band, and through practice and performance.

I've also studied songwriting at Interlochen Center for the Arts and in classes from industry writers. I've also studied film scoring through Berklee Summer Programs.

I've played at restaurants, bars, and plazas, and am now expanding in bands and writing my own music.

Acting

Musical Theatre, Theatre, Film Acting

I fell in love with the stage in first grade before any other artistic area. Maturing from an expressive kid in elementary school to now, a Stanislavski Technique-trained actor, I've been in 18 musical theatre and theatre productions, and have delved into film as well.

Winning multiple regional awards, such as two Spirit of the MACY Awards and being nominated for two Cappies awards, Best Supporting Actor and Cameo Actor in a Musical, I'm constantly exploring how to better portray, feel, and reflect stories through acting.
